All Officers are to report at 9:00 am on Monday, July 18th for Officer work week.

All Pit, Front Ensemble members will start camp with the Full Band on July 25th

Band Camp!

Full Band will start on Monday, July 25th at 9:00 AM as scheduled.

We will break for lunch from 12:00 to 1:30

Lunch will be provided at no charge if students wish to stay on campus during this time, also coke and snack machines are also accessible on campus during camp.

Band camp is always the beginning of a new and exciting time. Whether you are a senior or freshmen it is a new experience of some sort, and will be different from years past.

The first few days are always a bit hectic and confusing, so please relax and enjoy. We promise that you will find this to be a memorable and enjoyable experience filled with many new friends and adventures. It’s perfectly normal to feel a bit anxious and apprehensive if this is your first year, but after a couple of days everyone will feel

“at home” in the Hanna Band. All Students are also reminded to bring a water jug or camel back for water. There is ample access to water on the field for refills.

Contest Schedule Set:

The Locations for our Marching Band Contests have now been set. None of the dates have been changed from the original schedule that was printed in April.

September 24th: Land of the Sky Marching Band Contest in Enka, NC near Ashville

October 1st: Halftime Performance at Wofford – Appalachian State Football Game in Spartanburg, SC

October 8th: Georgia Festival of Champions at East Jackson High School in

Commerce Georgia

October 15th: Pendleton High School Marching Band Contest in Pendleton, SC

October 22nd: The South Carolina Upper State Marching Band Contest at Boiling Springs High School in Boiling Springs, SC

October 29th: The South Carolina State Marching Band Championships at

Spring Valley High School in Columbia, SC

DCI Trip:

Saturday, July 30th (All Day Trip)

We will depart at 12:00 noon and return very late. (Approximately 2:00 am)

Remember money for the DCI trip will be due by Thursday of the first full week of camp. Cost is $40.00. $20.00 for the ticket and $20.00 for the bus costs.

Students will need money for food also.

Uniform Drive:

Our Uniform drive is now up to $19,000 in donations and pledges, which puts us at approximately 30% of our goal. Your help is needed in getting the word out to friends, family members and alumni. I’m absolutely convinced that we reach our goal very quickly if everyone helps to get the pledge cards out. We welcome your ideas, suggestions and help. We will are also planning to pass out pledge cards at the first football game and all upcoming events. A pledge card and uniform drive letter is attached to this email.

We Need:

Sodas and Snacks

We need every band family to donate a 12 pack of brand name soda and individually wrapped snacks such as Lance crackers, and individual packs of chips. These will be used at football games and contest to help students offset the high costs of concessions. These can be dropped off at the band room at any time during camp. We will be stockpiling these items all during the season.

New Tower!

The School district building committee has made a recommendation to the School Board that the current Band Practice Tower be replaced. Final approval on this should take place early next week. Pictured below is the proposed tower:

T.L. Hanna Jazz Band News:

The T.L. Hanna Jazz Ensemble received a superior rating once again at the South Carolina Jazz Festival at Newberry College on March 5th. This is the 28th consecutive straight appearance at this festival and the 23rd time that the band has been awarded straight superior ratings from the judges. Gabriel Bertolini was named as the outstanding soloist for Hanna. Also, Gabe Bertolini and Jerry Wiles were selected for and performed with the South Carolina All State Jazz Band. Both students were featured during the performance with the All State Band. This year’s festival selections for Hanna were Night in Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie, Round’ Midnight by Thelonious Monk and One Mint Julep by Rudolph Toombs. Soloists for the Hanna band’s performance included Reid Stayanoff on trumpet, Sam Park and Brandon Joy on Alto Saxophone, Gabe Bertolini on Tenor Sax. and Jerry Wiles on Trombone. The Hanna Jazz Band will now move into a busy spring performance schedule which includes numerous school tours, community events and concerts. On Thursday, April 7th, the Hanna Jazz Ensemble will kick off the Anderson Block Party in downtown Anderson for the second consecutive year.

Winter Guard:

Congratulations to the T.L. Hanna Winter Guard for their performance at Blue Ridge High School on March 5th. The Guard girls placed 4th out of 12 groups and are well on their way to a great championship season!

Mardi Gras!

Once again, The T.L. Hanna Band was awarded First Place in the annual Krew of REX Band Invitational at the REX parade in New Orleans this past Tuesday, March 8th. The annual event has been held since 1982 and features local and regional bands. The actual parade started in 1872 as the culmination of the Mardi Gras season. The crowd for the 2011 parade was estimated at well over one million people. The Hanna Band has participated in the event 11 times since 1987 and has been named Grand Champion 9 times. The four hour, six mile parade features approximately 30 bands and 27 floats in addition to 600 REX members on riding on the Floats and on Horseback. The Band was judged during the first mile of the parade and was presented with the trophy by the Major of New Orleans at the main reviewing stand at Galliger Hall. The REX parade is always held on Fat Tuesday during and is the largest and most prestigious of the Mardi Gras celebration. The band members departed Anderson on Saturday evening and returned last Wednesday evening. While in the city the band members went on an actual swamp tour, visited the WW II museum, the New Orleans aquarium, toured the Mississippi on the Riverboat Natchez and visited sites in the French Quarter. Many thanks to chaperones, students and parents who made this trip a great experience for our students!

Solo and Ensemble Registration:

Solo and Ensemble Registration must be completed this week. Solos are $6.00 and Ensembles are $3.00 per student. All moneys must be turned in by Thursday, March 17th.

Winter Ensemble Championships:

The Hanna Drumline and Winter Guard will be competing in the South Carolina Winter Ensemble Championships on Saturday, March 19th in Charleston. This event will determine the State Champion Drumline and Guard in their respective divisions.

Fees for Guard and Drumline:

Final fees for Winter Guard and Drumline are now due for the Charleston trip. Drumline fees are $55.00 are due now.

Uniform Drive Officially Launched!

A big thank you to everyone who came out to support our Winter Groups on Tuesday, March 1st at the annual Drumline, Guard and Jazz Band Showcase!

For those who were unable to attend we also launched our official uniform drive for 2011-2012. Donations and pledges for this important project have already begun to stream in! We are in the process of preparing a mass mailing and will need everyone’s help to make this a reality. Please note the information attached to this e-mail and help pass the work to family, friends and alumni of the Hanna Bands.

Together we can make it work!

Dear Hanna Band Alumni and Friends,

The T L Hanna Bands has officially launched our new Uniform Drive. While our previous uniforms have served us well, they are now 11 years old and very outdated with many in need of repair. Due to the many state and local budget cuts and the increasing cost of transportation, the responsibility for funding this project will fall entirely on the T L Hanna Band Boosters. We are starting this ambitious project by calling on many of the Hanna Band Alumni members and friends to support us with donations. The cost of one uniform will be about $370 with a total goal of $65,000.

We have made your pledge easy! Enclosed you will find a pledge card wherein you can donate to this worthwhile project. You may make your donation in memory of, in honor of, or in recognition of a graduating class. All donor names will be listed in our programs, on a sign at the band practice fence, and placed on our web site. While we know that this is a huge financial undertaking, we are confident that by working together each student will have an opportunity to succeed and realize their dreams.

Important Reminders:

Monday, November 29th is the last day to turn in Fruit Orders.

You may bring them to the band room if you are unable to get in touch with your team leader.

Please remember that the success of the fruit sale is essential to our program. Most people do not realize that all of our transportation, uniform, instructional and most equipment and music expenses are funded by this sale and band fees. Our bus expenses for the fall alone will run over $10,000.00. We are committed to keeping fees as low as possible for our students, but it is more important than ever for our members to realize that everyone must participate in order to provide the very best for our students. Working together we can do more.

State Contest!

Congratulations Hanna Band!

The T.L. Hanna Band was named as a State Finalist Saturday at the South Carolina Upper State Band Championships at Boiling Springs High School. Hanna scored a 91.245 which is their highest score ever at this event. The Hanna Marching Band will now advance to the State Championship at Spring Valley High School in Columbia. This Saturday, October 29th. Hanna’s Performance time is 7:15

Food and Drinks Needs for Competitions and Games:

Drinks needed:

1 case(12cans) or 1 cube (24cans) Sunkist, Orange Crush, Dr.Pepper and Cokes or Pepsi - no store brands. He said we would need 35 cases in next few weeks! We have 5 to possibly 7 games left (if do playoffs) and 5 competitions and 1 performance that he will need drinks for the kids.

Yeah, We are covered for this week, 9/25/10, but there are 5 more weekends coming up.

We need each time around 200 to 250 of each (and if feed twice, it doubles)

Sandwiches: we need 30 sandwiches per parent, can be PB&J, meat, meat & cheese - no pimento cheese.Please, wrap them individually then place in larger bags or back in the loaf bag and label so as for allergies as well as we will ice ones for trips.

Chips: individual snack packs, Frito/Lays/Doritos come 20-22 per store package or I am told Sam's Club brand come 50 to a box. Need 2 packages of Lays, etc per parent for 40+ or 1 Sam's 50 count box. You may send more if you like as will be used for the games.

Cookies/brownies/cupcakes - no frosting please: Need 3 cookies in a baggie and need 40 baggies per parent. For brownies or cupcakes, need 40 per parent wrapped individually.

We also need some help getting all this together on these Saturdays so we may ask some of you to come help feed them, pack and get all on the busses! And, do any of you have rolling ice chests we could borrow each week? Will need 3 or 4.

Our performance time will be between 7 and 8 that evening.

Parents who wish to go to the Wofford Game Performance on Oct. 2nd may purchase tickets for $10.00. We will take reservations for these tickets at the Booster Meeting on Thursday. We have been given an allotment of 50 tickets, so make sure to reserve yours now. The Game is currently scheduled for 1:30.
A Specific time line will be released as soon as Wofford confirms call times and logistics.

Drum Line Finished First in their Division and our Winter Guard Finished 5th just three points out of first. This is the sixth consecutive first place finish for our Drumline and our Guard was promoted to HSA INT

Flight and Baggage Information:

Students are requested to bring all suitcases and instrument cases to the band room at the beginning of school on Thursday, Feb. 4th. Students will be supplied with name tags to mark all cases. All Cases will be checked by chaperones and directors.

Students are recommended to pack “carry on” bags as the airline currently charges a fee Each Way for checked luggage.

We will be dismissing the students after 2nd Period/1st Block on Thursday, Feb.4th.

We will leave Hanna by District V bus to Charlotte Airport (Douglas International) at 10:00 AM

US Air #928 departs Charlotte at 2:27 on Thursday, Feb. 4th, and arrives at 3:29 (Central Time) in Chicago O’Hare . (There is a one hour time difference)

US Air #927 departs Chicago at 4:14 on Sunday, Feb. 7th, and arrives at 7:04 in Charlotte.

We will return to Anderson by District V Bus at approximately 9:30 PM.

Their Assistance proved to be invaluable to our program and our students. The Band Camp budget was cut drastically in the latest round of reductions, and we simply would not have been able to cover all of the sectionals and rehearsals without these alumni members who gave so un-selfishly of their time and talents!!!!

1st Game at Home!
Call Time will be 5:45

All band members should reports “dressed” with pants, shoes, black socks and band t-shirt. Pick up your jacket and report to your section leader in the Mall Area, with instrument and flip folder.
The section leader will check your instrument, music and uniform in the mall area before we warm up.
Students may not change out of their uniform (pants, shoes, t shirt etc) inside the building.
Coats will be collected after half time in the stadium. All sections will be arranged in the stands in a specific order and seat.
We will provide snacks and drinks in the stands during third quarter.

Students are not permitted to leave the area without a chaperone.

We will dismiss the band in the stadium after the game. Shoes are here and will be given out after Monday’s rehearsal.

Schedule Reminders and Updates

Schedule Updates

The Battery Drumline will be playing for the Greenville Drive Game/Jim Ed Rice Ceremony on Thursday, September 3rd. This is the Thursday before the Daniel Game. Drumline members will pick up their uniform and leave Hanna at 4:00 on that day.

Lunch:

We will be able to provide some light lunches free of charge to any students at Band Camp through the August 7th. Unknown to us until Monday, there is an existing grant program that provides free lunches to students involved in all summer programs. Please just have your child let us know and we will make arrangements to have the food delivered to the school cafeteria at Noon.

Sting Night:

The band will perform at the all sports pep rally on Tuesday, August 11th. Call time will be 7:00 PM. We will finish at no later than 8:00. The students will wear their band T-Shirts which will be given out during Camp.

Booster Meeting:

Please mark your calendar for the first Booster Meeting of the year on Thursday, August 13th at 7:15 in the Hanna Band Room. Your support is essential to the success of your program for all of our students.

Chaperone Meeting:

The annual meeting for those parents who would like to Chaperone will be Tuesday, August 25th at 7:15 in the Band Room. The District requires that we have a policy meeting with all parents who chaperone or work with our students.

Cookout:

Our annual band camp cookout will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 on Thursday, August 6th. We hope that parents, family and friends will be able to attend, and enjoy some free food!

An updates performance schedule will be sent out the beginning of next week. No dates are added, but some away games will be dropped, and the contest schedule will be confirmed.

Shoes:

Please note that we must complete our shoe order by the end of next week. If you have not year paid for the shoes or gloves please send money as soon as possible and deposit in the drop box in the band room. All checks should be made out to Kathy Pickens, and marked with the students name and size.

Uniforms:

All students will be sized at camp for Uniforms by the end of next week.

Band Fees:

After a great deal of discussion, we have decided to raise band fees slightly to $135.00 for all Band and Percussion Students. Guard fees will remain $95.00, plus the $55.00 uniform fee. We regret having to increase any fees, but the current budget situation and transportation costs have dictated this cost. We are proud that our fees still will remain well below all of the bands in our area as well as those in our competition bracket. Area band fees are more than double our fees even after this increase. Families with more than one child in the band will be given consideration, and under no circumstances will a child be denied any part of our program for financial considerations. We welcome any comments or suggestion you may have regarding this. Our fee structure and budget issues will be explained in detail at our August meeting.

Updates and Random News for July 9, 2009

ü Rifle Practice: Tuesday, July 14th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon

ü There are still a few seats left for the DCI trip on July 25th. We will be leaving 1t 10:00AM and return very late. Lunch and Dinner will be on you own at the Georgia Dome and CNN Center which is next door.

ü Please note that “Sting Night” will be held on Tuesday, August 11th at 7:30 in the Hanna Gym. The Marching Band will play for the event.

ü The first full Band Booster Meeting will be Held on Thursday, August 13th at 7:15 in the Hanna Band Room. Please plan to attend if at all possible. Parental support is essential to the success of our program.

ü A meeting for those parents who wish to serve as Chaperones for the 2009-2010 season will be held on August 25th at 7:15 in the Hanna Band Room.

ü All Schedules have been mailed out. A final schedule will not be available until camp as we are still waiting on some school events to be finalized. No new dates will be added, however several away games will be dropped and the location of the marching contests will be finalized. Please note that the first contest date on September 19th has been dropped.

ü Students are reminded to please bring a case of bottled water to band camp. We will use this during camp rehearsals.

ü A Gator Aide and a cracker/candy machine have been moved to the Band Hallway for use for the students during camp.

ü As in the past, chaperones will be available during lunch time for those students who stay at the school during their lunch break.

ü We have been notified that the current wind suits used by the Color Guard have been discontinued. While we are committed to keeping costs as low as possible for all of our students, we will have to request that all color guard members purchase new tops for the wind suits. The pants will not have to be replaced. We are working now to obtain the lowest possible price and will notify everyone during guard camp.

ü We can use any Latex paint in any color that you would like to get rid of. We can mix this paint and use it for “field marking paint” which will save money. If you have any old gallons of paint in any quantity, please just drop it by the band room. Partially used gallons are welcome!

ü We are going to start a separate uniform fund for those who wish to donate money for their replacement. At present, our uniforms are entering their ninth season, and the recommended average life of a set of marching uniforms is approximately seven years. This will be a
multi-year project that will establish a fund to purchase new uniforms. in 2012. Specific details for this project will follow soon.

Schedules for the fall will be mailed out early next week. These are essentially the same schedule that was emailed during the spring. Due to transportation costs, we will drop some of the away games which will be identified in a later mailing. Our contest schedule will remain the same as previous years. Specific locations for the contest will also be listed in a later mailing

If you have reserved a spot for the Atlanta DCI trip, please make sure and send in your ticket money now. The costs for the ticket and bus is $30.00. You may mail the check in or leave it in the front office for Mr. Whitt. The front office at Hanna is usually open from 8:00 to 3:30 daily.
The band office will be open from 9:00 to 3:00 daily with the exception of the week of June 22nd and July 2nd and 3rd.

Optional Rifle practice for Guard Members who wish to spin Rifles this year will be on Tuesday, July 7th and Tuesday July 14th from 10:00 am to 12:00 am.

We are going to set up a “text” data base for this season in an effort to improve communication and save on costs. We will continue the weekly emails and postings on the web site. If you would like to be included in the text updates please email Mr. Whitt with the following information:

Carrier that you use such as Verizon, AT&T etc.

School Instruments may be checked out at this time. Students must fill out and sign a user contract. See Bas or Mr. Whitt any time for this.

Volunteer Forms: We are in need of parent volunteers for many different positions and committees. We certainly realize that everyone has different resources and availability, but we feel that almost everyone can find a way to share their talents with our students. There are many different ways to help that do not require meetings or a large time commitment. No job or donation of time is too small. Please take time to look over volunteer forms that were sent home as we need your support more than ever to continue to offer the best experience possible for our students.

Text Messages Communication: In an effort to improve communication, we are going to send weekly text messages for call times and other appropriate information in addition to weekly emails and the message board news online. Texts messages will only be sent to phones with parental permission. We are hoping to expand the web site to include all information including directions, state audition requirements as well as music files for region auditions, show music and solo and ensemble.

Thanks: Many thanks to those who have donated so much to our program and to those participated in our Spring Fund-Raisers. This has been a record year for monetary donations, which have enabled us to continue to operate at full capacity in spite of budget cuts. All Donations of paper, tape, batteries and countless other items have helped us to save money and cut expenses.

INFORMATION FOR UPCOMING HANNA BAND EVENTS

Thursday, April 23rd 7:15pm:
Spring Concert with all Bands in Conjunction with the McCants 7th and 8th Grade. All students must report at 6:00. The performance will conclude by 8:30.
A reception will follow the performance.

Friday, April 24th at 8:30am and 9:40am:
Spring Concert Assemblies at School for Hanna Student Body and Faculty.
These performances are also open to the public.

Dress for these events will be black pants or skirts and white tops.
The boys are expected to wear a tie.

ü Congratulations to our Winter Guard and Indoor Drumline who have just recently completed their season.

ü Our Indoor Drumline finished a perfect season by being named Grand Champion in their division at the Carolina Indoor Performance Association’s Championship at Western Carolina University on March 28th. The Winter Guard was promoted this season to HSA and finished 6th in their division. Congratulations to all of the students who participated with our Winter Programs. We look forward to next season for continued success and growth.

Fund-Raising-Budget Issues-Schedule and Plans for Future:

Our School District, along with many others among us, have been faced with difficult financial issues. While our district is strongly supportive of our program, the current budget issues will have an effect on our program. Our supply budget was frozen in December and the Band and Athletic Booster Clubs were asked to cover all transportation costs for the remainder of the year. While we are unsure and apprehensive of what projected future state cuts will mean for our program, we remain committed to moving forward with all of our plans for all of our winter programs. Next years plans include travel for both the Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Winds. Specific plans will follow soon.

In the last couple of years, we have conducted a spring onion sale that supplemented our budget for the last spring and summer. This fund raiser will take on a new importance as we look ahead to maintaining and continuing to provide the very best for everyone. With everyone’s support, we remain confident that we can reach our goals for continued success. We will need everyone to help in every way possible, as we will not be able to spend money on repairs or accessories (reeds, valve oil etc..) as we have in the past. We will plan as we always do for another spring and fall, including all of the usual trips and competitions. We will also keep our options open for larger trips, as we continue to receive invitations from events such as the Citrus and Gator Bowls and even the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.

While we will have to work harder and conserve, we feel that working together and supporting each other we will emerge stronger individually and collectively. We welcome and encourage all ideas and thoughts as we continue to plan ahead for our program.

Congratulations to the Hanna Jazz Ensemble who received another superior rating at the South Carolina All State Jazz Festival this past Saturday. Also Congratulations to Harrison Barnette and Adam Chabek who received outstanding soloist awards. Senior Eddy Stein was featured in the All State Jazz Band which performed during the festival.

 At 12:00 noon of each rehearsal day the students are dismissed for lunch. Students who do not have rides may bring lunch and eat in the Band Room. There are drink and cracker machines on campus. Many students car pool with others, however there will be volunteer parents available to help students with ride problems of any nature. Please let us know in advance if we can help.
 When school starts on August 19th we will begin after school rehearsals every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 6:20. After the month of September, the Monday rehearsals are dropped keeping just the regular Tuesday and Thursday rehearsal routine as in the past. Please note that the first football game falls on August 28th. The drum line will rehearse on Wednesdays from 3:45 to 5:15 until the completion of Contest season. The Flag Corps will also practice separately from the band on Mondays from 4:00 to 6:15 through the month of September. There are no afterschool rehearsals after football/marching season.

 The performance schedule listed on the opposite side of this page consists of Football Games and Contests. It is still too early to identify the contest locations but the dates listed will not change. Also note that we will not travel to two of the away football games scheduled.

JAZZ BAND: The T.L. Hanna Jazz Band is an optional activity, which is organized after Marching Season. (Usually early November) The Jazz Band meets after school on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 5:30. Membership is open to all interested Marching Band Students.
JAZZ BAND READING SESSIONS WILL START ON OCTOBER XXX
Jazz Band students register for this as a class and receive a grade and a full unit credit for their participation.
CONCERT BAND and CHAMBER WINDS: All playing members of the Marching Band are considered members of the Concert or Chamber Winds. Students are divided into one of the two groups by ability and the needs of the ensemble. The Chamber Winds group participates in Concert Festival and both groups present a series of concerts during second semester.

Hanna Band at CIPA Competition:

Congratulations to the T.L. Hanna Band Indoor Drumline for their first place class finish at the Carolina Indoor Performance Association’s qualifying show at Easley High School on Saturday, January 31st. This is the first year that the Hanna band has fielded an Indoor Line that will compete in the CIPA circuit The Drum Line is led by senior captains David Reynolds and Amber Simons and the drumline instructor is Shon Brown. Also Congratulations to the Hanna Winter Guard that was promoted up a class in the Carolina Indoor Performance Association. The Hanna Band Winter Guard is led by Captains Emily Harris, Aly Smyth, Amanda Bensen and Amber Pettigrew. The next competition will be at Dorman High School on February 14th. There is some limited space on the bus for those who would like to go and watch!!!

ROTC Inspection:

Chamber Winds will play briefly for the ROTC formal inspection on Wednesday. Students are requested to wear black and white and report to the gym during homeroom for the program. The inspection will start at 10:15 and should conclude at approximately 11:00. Students will be excused from class for the program.

Region Band:

Congratulations to all who tried out for Region Band! This is the one activity that benefit students individually for scholarship consideration. Colleges and Universities are consistently asking for nominations for students who participate in Region Band for clinics and honors groups. This will also enable students to receive Honors Credit for Band. We feel very strongly that this is one of the most valuable activities available to our students.

Show:

We are currently exploring some show ideas. At present, we are looking at a show called “Heartbeat”. Its an original…… CD will be available soon. Your input is needed and solicited.

Unit Credit for Marching Band:

We are looking into submitting a proposal that will give a .5 credit for Marching Band . This will be in addition to the unit credit given for class. The .5 credit will bring an additional boost to the students GPA, as it will automatically give band students 8.5 credits and Jazz Band students 9.5 credits. This will have to be approved by the district and if approved will go into effect for the 2009-2010 school year.

Mardi Gras:

Plans for Mardi Gras are set. Please note the mandatory Full Practice on Wednesday, Feb. 18th. All participating students must have everything passed off by that Wednesday. The Bus list will be posted in the next week along with Chaperone assignments.

Flag Corps Practice for Mardi Gras:

Wednesday, February 11th, and Monday, February 16th
Both Rehearsals will run from 4:00 to 6:00

NEW YEAR 2009

 Another reminder that Saturday, January 10th will be the Region Tryouts, which will be the first Saturday that we return from the Holidays. Times are posted in the band room and a bus will be provided if needed. The tryouts will be at Northside Middle School in Greenwood, SC. Directions will also be provided for those who wish to drive to the audition.

 Our trip to New Orleans is on track. A hard copy of all the trip information will be given to the students the week of January 5th. This is simply a copy of the information posted online, but it will include all financial information. Payments for the trip if applicable will be due on January 19th. Rooming lists will be posted and adjusted the week of January 12th.

 Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion have started rehearsals before the Holidays. They will follow the same performance schedule which will be posted in the next couple of weeks.

 Thanks to everyone for another successful fruit sale. In spite of very challenging economic conditions, this year’s sale top $70,000 in gross sales. This is not the largest sale, but one of the top four in comparison to previous trip years.

 Our school district has been hit with yet another budget cut from the State. There are also projections of another cut in March with further reductions in the fall. Concerning this, the Band and Athletic booster clubs have been asked to take over all transportation costs for the remainder of the school year. This will of course present new challenges as we work to keep our programs strong and active for all of our students. We certainly do not want to compromise any part of our program or raise fees due to funding issues. As we look ahead, we are going to purse several grants along with some other foundation options. We will also put a new priority on our spring onion sale and possibly combine it with spring fruit. While we want to keep limit all fund-raising that involves our students, we also are committed to keeping fees at a minimum so all students may participate. Working together, we feel that we can meet these challenges and keep our program strong.

 Meet at the Main Office of the Wachovia Bank on Main Street in Downtown Anderson at 2:00.

 The Bank is in Front of the Anderson Rec. Center. You will see the band trucks in the parking lot next to the bank.

 Pick up your Jackets and Hats at the Band Truck. All Large Equipment will also be transported to the site.

 If you wear additional clothes because of the weather, please remember that it must be worn under the uniform. The only additional headgear allowed is a solid black beanie.

Dear Parents,

Please read the attached information carefully and return the completed permission slip immediately. It is essential that parents and students read and understand the information contained here. PLEASE take the time to go over everything carefully.

The cost of the trip is determined by the amount of fruit sold. The amount owed is shown on the sticker in the top right hand corner of this letter. The amount owed, and the permission form attached to this letter should be sent in to the band room. Students who sell $1,200.00 worth of fruit, and have cleared all band fees will not owe any money on the trip.

Those students who still owe Band Fees will be contacted. All monies owed must be cleared by December 12th, regardless if the student goes on the trip or not. . After this date, all outstanding bills are turned over to the Hanna book- keeper.

The T.L. Hanna Band and Mardi Gras

The Hanna Band first traveled to New Orleans in 1987 to participate in the REX parade on Fat Tuesday at the end of the Mardi Gras season. The success of the trip and its popularity with the students and parents soon gave the Hanna Band a reputation for being The Parade Band of the Mardi Gras festival. The Hanna Band gained a great deal of local and regional attention by winning the Grand Champion of the REX parade in 1987 and again in 1989 and the runner up award in 1991. The South Carolina State House of Representatives passed a resolution in 1989 honoring the Hanna Bands, and the REX organization issued a permanent invitation for the Hanna Band to participate. The Hanna Band Mardi Gras story was featured on local TV stations in Greenville and Spartanburg and a number of feature articles appeared in the Greenville, Anderson and New Orleans newspapers.

After 1991, the Band made a difficult but very positive decision to do way with trips in order to purchase much needed new uniforms, upgrade the equipment and hire summer instructors for the Marching Band. The investment paid off with great benefits for the band. At the same time, this decision meant the band had no opportunity to travel and showcase their talents. In 1996 the Hanna Band returned to New Orleans after an eight-year absence. The 1996 trip proved to be as memorable as ever, for the band was named 1st Runner Up in the REX parade. The band also went in 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2007 where it received the Grand Championship Trophy each time. Trips such as this are possible due to the hard work of many people over the years to put the Band on a sound financial footing while providing the best possible equipment and instruction. We are hoping that we can continue to improve our financial standing and provide outstanding trip opportunities for the students of the Hanna Bands.

These trips have always worked well for us and have provided many wonderful memories. We are confident that they will continue to provide positive experiences that will benefit both the band program and the individual students who participate, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

DAYS MISSED FROM SCHOOL:

These days are counted as field trip days and do not count against the student. Students are encouraged to ask for assignments in advance. Teachers have been notified of this event and are more than willing to cooperate. These three days do not count against the students for any reason and they will be excused from Band Class at any time to make up work missed upon a teacher’s request. Please remember that Thursday, February 29th is not excused and will not be considered a legal absence for the students if they choose not to go to school. ALSO, IT IS ALWAYS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIB ILITY TO MAKE UP WORK AT THE TEACHER’S CONVENIENCE. IT IS NOT THE TEACHER’S JOB TO FIND OUT WHAT NEEDS TO BE MADE UP. YOU MUST OPERATE ON THE TEACHER’S SCHEDULE, NOT THE STUDENT’S.

PERMISSION FORMS:

Medical Forms that were used for Football season will be used for the Mardi Gras trip. These forms must contain the correct and current insurance information, along with proper home and business phone number of both the mother and father. We always take at least two registered nurses along with us as a chaperones, and they will be available to assist students with any medication that they are presently taking. Please remember that these forms are absolutely mandatory. If the medical form that was used during the football season needs to be updated, please pick up one in the band room or download a copy off of the band web site. A general permission slip which is attached to this document, must be returned along with any money due.

In accord with District V policy, students are allowed to keep their medications. All luggage and their medications are checked and documented by the chaperones before students load the buses. Parents who wish chaperones to carry medications for their child should make this request in writing. The requested accommodations will be made.

LUGGAGE:

Students are allowed one suitcase and their uniform garment bag. Student should place their entire uniform, including shoes, in a garment bag. Students are encouraged to share items such as hair dryers with their roommates to save space. Expensive personal items such as jewelry should be left at home. Students may take light snack items on the bus. No boxes or portable stereos are allowed. Walkmans with headphones are permitted. All Luggage and carry on items are checked before loading the buses.

MEALS:

All meals are provided for with the exception of 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and 1 breakfast in route. Students will need money for these meals and incidentals only. All activities and tours are taken care of.

IDENTIFICATION:

Students who plan to use traveler’s checks are reminded that they will need some type of picture identification. Students who do not yet have a driver’s license will need to make arrangements for this, if they plan on using traveler’s checks.

Please understand that all regulations of the T.L. Hanna student handbook and policies of Anderson School District V are applicable for this event. Consumption of intoxicants or tobacco of any kind, regardless of the student’s age, will result in indefinite suspension from school and the student will be sent home at the parent’s expense.

We will be traveling to and from New Orleans during the night in order to save time for daytime activities, thus getting the most trip for the money. Our departure and arrival times are not definite due to some minor last minute adjustments to our itinerary. There will be very little change from the present information however.

ITENERARY:

A copy of our itinerary is attached to this information. All students will follow every item in the itinerary AS A GROUP. No students will be allowed to make their own “agenda” for any reason. No adults or parents of students who attend will be allowed to take their child from the group for any reason. No chaperones that are parents of students on the trip will be allowed to remove any student for the group, nor will any chaperones be allowed to leave the group for reasons that do not accommodate the group.

WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS:

We will make every attempt to get information regarding weather conditions in New Orleans a few days before our departure so the students can be prepared and pack accordingly. The weather is very unpredictable in New Orleans at this time of the year, but it is generally mild in the daytime and very cool at night. Students are encouraged to bring some type of rain gear.

BUS INFORMATION:

We do not allow “boxes” on buses nor will we allow any movies to be shown except for those brought by the chaperones. Please do not ask the driver or the bus chaperone to play anything in the tape deck or DVD/VCR.

CHAPERONES:

We generally take 12 to 14 chaperones not including the Band Directors. A list of these chaperones will be presented at the Booster Club Meeting. Those parents who have an interest should contact BAS for the necessary information. Chaperones do pay for their trip and are selected by the Band Director based on criteria attached with this information.

Chaperones accompany the students during all events during the trip. Students are divided into small groups, and each chaperone is responsible for a maximum of 12 students. These students stay with their chaperone at all times.

REHEARSALS:

We will have one full, after school band rehearsal for Mardi Gras on Wednesday February 18th. From 4:00 to 5:30. These rehearsals are mandatory for participation in the trip.
(No exceptions can or will be made concerning this)

CODE OF CONDUCT:

Students will be required to sign a form that outlines specifics in regard to behavior and procedures that are appropriate for trips of this nature. All parents and students are reminded that this is a school trip that is subject to all school and district discipline codes.

CHAPERONE INFORMATION

The selection of Chaperones has at times been an unnecessary point of contention with some. In order to minimize this, I have tried to provide some up-front information that will answer most questions.

Selection:

Selection is made by the Band Director with the Following Considerations:

Parents who have chaperoned in the fall (Number 1 consideration)
Parents who know the students
District V Employees
Medical Skills (Nurse)
Previous involvement with the Booster Club Activities
Couples who can go together
Parents of students who have special medical issues.

Please read the following information carefully:

Cost to chaperones will be $349.00 per person (2 or 3 to a room)
Chaperones will be assigned a certain number of “rooms” to check, and those students will be the responsibility of that chaperone.
Chaperones are responsible for staying with their assigned students at all times during the day. Chaperones must accompany the students at all times.
Chaperones will be responsible for checking rooms at nights and for waking up the students in the morning.
Chaperones will be responsible for checking the buses carefully and quickly at every stop.
In most cases, two chaperones will be teamed together on a bus, and will work as a team to their rooms, bus, etc.
Chaperones CANNOT administer any prescription medications to Students. (It’s the Law)
Chaperones will need to be willing to leave the group to go with a sick student to the hospital, if necessary.
Chaperones must agree not to leave the group for any reason, other than an emergency.
Chaperones must agree not to take any students (including their own child) away from the group activity or to areas that the group is not allowed or scheduled to go to.
Chaperones must agree not o leave the motel for any reason, other than an emergency.
Chaperones will not make the “own agenda” to sightsee, shop, or leave the group for any reason other than an emergency.
Chaperones are not within their rights to discipline or administer punishment to the students. They are however expected to instruct student to cease any and all inappropriate behavior such as curfew violations etc., and report them to the band directors.
It is not possible for us to allow chaperones to bring along other children who are not in the band.
We usually take around 14 to 16 parent chaperones.

If you agree to follow these procedures, as listed above, and wish to chaperone, please sign below. I will make the selections and notify those involved prior to Jan. 22nd.

All Students are strongly encouraged to tryout for Region Band, which will qualify them for Honors Credit for Band. Region Band participants are also eligible for scholarship opportunities as well as college and university clinics and festivals.

Just a reminder that the Chaperone Meeting will be on Tuesday, August 26th at 6:45. Please remember that we are required to have this meeting for anyone who plans on serving as a chaperone during the school year.

The Bus Parking lot is not available to parents or students for drop off/pick up after 3:30 in the afternoon. The buses usually clear around 4:15, but parents may drop off on the “hill” facing the band field if they prefer.

Band T-Shirts that have been ordered will NOT be available for the first game. Hopefully, these will available for the first home game with Westside.

The Bus List will be posted Monday, August 25th. Students may not change the list, but we will take requests for students who wish to switch.

Chaperone Meeting will be Tuesday, August 26th at 6:45. This is a mandatory meeting for all those who wish to chaperon. Background check forms must be filled out and turned in before the district will allow us to place any adults on the buses.

Game Procedure:

We will meet at Hanna at 6:00 PM to load the buses for the Westside Game.

All Students must ride the bus “dressed” to and from the game. Band Pants, Shoes, Socks and the BLACK Band T-Shirt.
Coats will be given out and taken up at the Game Site.

ALL STUDENTS MUST RIDE THE BUS BACK TO HANNA.

All Percussion, Sousaphones, Marching Baritones, Euphonium, Mellophones and Tenor Saxophones

All Instruments must be marked with your name and loaded on the truck on Friday after the PEP Rally. You are responsible for making sure that your instrument, mallets etc are loaded.

ALL OF THESE INSTRUMENTS MUST BE PACKED AND RE-LOADED AFTER THE GAME.

THE LOADING CREW IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR INSTRUMENT

PASS OFFS:

Ballet Suite and Symphony Must be passed off by memory to Mr. Whitt

Reminders:

Cell phones are not allowed in the stands. They may be used on the buses.

SOLID BLACK Socks Must be worn with the Uniform.

No Jewelry is allowed with the Uniform.

Students are not allowed out of the stands at the Westside Game.
Those Students who need to go to restroom must be accompanied by a Chaperone.

Random news for the week of August 11th

v The Full Band will Rehearse on Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. These are our only rehearsals for the week. Practice will resume the first day of school on Tuesday, August 19th at 4:00 pm. This will start our after school practice routine.

v The Full Marching Band including Flag Corps will participate and play for the Sting Night Rally on Tuesday, August 12th at 7:00 PM in the gym. All Students should wear their band T-Shirt and report to the gym no later than 7:00 PM. Parents are invited and the event should conclude no later than 8:00 PM.

v Chamber Winds will rehearse on Monday from 1:30 to 3:00 in the afternoon.

v Chamber will rehearse at New Spring Church at 8:00 am on Wednesday, August 13th.

Guard Rehearsals for the week are as follows:

Rifles: 3:00 to 5:00

Break for Lunch from 5:00 to 6:00

Full Guard: 6:00 to 9:00

Remember to bring bottled water for camp!

Chamber Winds Students will be asked to attend several evening rehearsals TBA for the New Spring Performance on August 13th. Details will follow next week.

A mailing that will include the medical and mutual consent form will be mailed early this week. Please fill out and sign these forms and bring to band camp.

Flag Corps members were given these forms at their parents meeting before the summer break.

We have about 8 seat left available for the DCI trip to Atlanta on the 26th of July. Let us know as soon as possible if you are interested. Tickets are $20.00 in advance, and the money for tickets may be left in the front office any time next week.

The show is almost completed and we feel that visually it is the strongest show we have ever written. Because of a new computer program, we will be able to post the animation for the show on the web site soon. This new program will also enable members to log in and print out their coordinates and view their positions within the show.

Please mark the date of AUGUST 7th for the back to school cook out. There was conflicting information in the recent mailing concerning the date for this event.

Rifle practice during the week of July 21st will be from 3 to 5, with all guard members meeting form 6 to 9. This is being done to allow for a dinner break for the rifle members. Battery percussion will meet this week at the regular times, 9 to 12 and 1:30 to 4:30.

Preparations for the fall show are moving quickly. This show will feature a red floor cover on the field, hundreds of red flags and even more surprises.
Guard uniforms have been ordered. We will post a sketch on the web soon.
Please remember the DCI trip to Atlanta on July 16th. We have a limited number of $20.00 advance tickets avaiable. After they are gone, the price will go up to $30.00.
We have sent out one email with some general information that is also posted here. If you have NOT received an email, please let us know and send a current email address. We realize that this will take some time to work out, but we would like to make this message board and our email database our main avenue of communication.
A booster email is also on its way to all of the parents. Please note the infomation on our annual cookout and on items that we need families to donate. Any donation of any amount is a great help as we work to keep expenses down.
The band room will be closed the week of June 30th, but feel free to call Bas or Mr. Whit should you need anything.

Congratulations to Cara Dillon and Eddy Stein who were selected at the 2008-2009 Drum Majors!

We are putting together an email list that will update all students and parents on a regular basis. This data base should be completed by the July 25th. Look for email messages from the band room soon!

Remember the optional DCI trip to Atlanta on July 26th. Cost will be $20.00 for advance tickets. If you purchase tickets the day of the event the cost will be $30.00. A district bus will be provided.

The band room will be open every day from 10:00 to 2:00 with the exception of the week of June 30th.

Drumline and Guard will start July 21st. During this week, Sherri will be here if anyone would like to get sized for uniforms. Uniforms fittings will be anytime from 10-12 and 2-4.

Many thanks to all of the Jazz Band and Winter Guard Students as we attempted to deal with bad weather, cancellations and rescheduling rehearsals this past weekend.

The Winter Guard will register for the North Lincoln contest in Denver, NC on Feb. 2nd to make up for the cancellation of the Dorman Contest. Details for this event will follow.

Jazz Band Students will continue preparations for their Chicago Trip on Feb. 8th.

Please note that the Clemson Jazz Band will perform for the 4th block students on Wednesday, Feb. 13th at 2:00. Students who are not in 4th block who wish to attend may do so with teacher permission.

Christmas Vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A quick thanks to everyone for a great first half. This year has marked one of the very strongest Marching Bands ever for Hanna, with a collection of some of the highest scores and placements ever. We feel very strongly about our direction and growth and look forward with greater anticipation that ever for the future.

The weeks following marching season have been filled with preparation for our Christmas Programs with the Jazz Band, Concert Band and Chamber Winds. All of these groups performed well with a strong collection of music for this time of the year. We have also been busy reading and selecting festival music for all of our groups and preparing for the Jazz Band's return to Chicago. We are very encouraged with the progress that all of the groups have made in the short time since the Christmas Concerts.

Winter Guard:
The show for this year will feature some percussion in addition to the guard. We are very excited about the potential for this show and feel that it will be the strongest ever. There will be one more additional rehearsal before the first contest which is January 19th at Dorman.

Percussion:
Shon will be back with us second semester, with a new set of percussion ensembles for the spring. We have also made a large number of contacts through the C. Force Percussion group that will prove to beneficial to our Marching Percussion Program. We hope to slowly start introducing indoor concert percussion this year.

Carolina Force:
The Hanna Band is hosting the Independent Percussion Group "Carolina Force". This group is made up of percussion students from Clemson, York, Byrnes, Easley, Pendleton, Dorman, Sumter, Spartanburg, Hanna and McCants. They will be rehearsing at Hanna through most of the Winter on the weekends and all of these rehearsals are open if anyone would like to come and observe.

Region Band, Clinics:
Region auditions are by far the most beneficial activity that you can participate in as an individual band student. This will be our primary focus during the first few weeks in January. The Region Audition will be January 12th. Everyone can benefit from preparing the scales and terms for this. We are also looking at the University of Carolina Clinic and several other College Clinics. Use all of these opportunities as a resource for applications etc.

The Jazz Band will be involved with collecting instruments in partnership with New Trier High School in Chicago, to send to New Orleans for schools and individuals that were adversely affected by Hurricane Katrina. Due to our close association with New Orleans and our plans to return there next school year, we would like to start our own project to take instruments directly to those schools. While this will be during the Mardi Gras season of the 2008-09 school year, we would like to start planning now. Due to our association with New Trier HS, we have established contacts that will aid in this process. We are also looking into a community service project in the New Orleans area during that time. The New Trier High School students are actually partipating in a Habitat for Humanity buidling project during their spring break this year. More information to follow on this.

Chamber Winds will be going to Concert Festival in the Spring along with the Carowinds trip which is scheduled for April 12th.

Congratulations Hanna Band on your Second Grand Championship!

Recap scores are posted on the board. This is the first time in many years that we have scored in the 90's at every contest. Also Drum Line has placed 1st in class three weeks in a row. The flag corps has placed 1st twice and they also placed 3rd overall at the Boiling Springs Contest our of 27 bands just behind Byrnes and Rock Hill!

There will no more Monday Marching band rehearsals as of October 8th.

Jazz Band Reading rehearsals will start on October 22nd.

UPPER STATE IS LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AWAY ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20th! OUR PERFORMANCE TIME WILL BE AT 6:30 pm. WE NEED PARENTS AND FRIENDS TO MARK THIS DATE NOW AS WE WILL NEED AS MUCH SUPPORT AS POSSIBLE. AUDIENCE SUPPORT CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE WITH THE OUTCOME OF ANY CONTEST.

Random Events:

Christmas Tree Lighting in Columbia on Sunday, November 25th. If you are a region band participant from previous years you are eligible. This is an all day event at the State House in Columbia on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Sign ups will be posted later.

Tuba Christmas at Polk County High School on Saturday, December 1st. All Day Event and Evening Concert for all interested Tuba and Baritone Players.

Flute Clinic at Bob Jones University in Greenville for all interested flute players of all levels. Cost is $10.00 per student. This is also on Saturday, December 1st.

We also have maps on our web site that you can print.

We will eat lunch at approximately 12:30 at the school and leave around 2:00. Our Performance time is 6:20.

We will have two more Monday Rehearsals: September 24th and Oct 1st

The Monday Rehearsals will be dropped after the week of Oct. 1st

Remember Homecoming/Senior Night will be the Easley Game. Seniors and Escorts will be announced during the pep rally. Seniors and their parents will be announced at the football game. (Oct. 5th) We will march our competition show after the game on that night.

We still need white duct and electrical tape as well as some inexpensive basic tools for the band room. All donations no matter how small will help

Jazz Band music will go out this week. (Music for Auditions)

Band Camp Stuff

Remember Pizza Buffet will donate a percentage of sales on Tuesday and Friday of this week if you identify yourself as a Hanna Band member/parent.

Individual pictures will be taken on Wednesday during sectionals. Make sure the information on this gets home.

Thursday will be the annual cookout from 4 to 7. Invite family and friends!

Friday will be half day rehearsal. Morning only.

Next week only three mornings Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 to 12:00.

Keep practicing, as we are on schedule to finish all of the opener and the second song by the end of the week. This will actually give us three days to run and polish before the first performance.

Flags will rehearse inside with Victor on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

Rifle and Flags:
Just a quick reminder that Flag Camp will start on the 16th at 6:00 pm at Hanna.

We will have an optional rifle practice from 2 to 5 Tuesday through Thursday of that week. (July 17th through the 20th) Please let Jamie Taylor know if you are interested at 356 7906.

Baritones and Euphoniums:

We have ordered new Marching Baritones and Euphoniums. The Euphoniums are larger and have a bigger bore size. If you are interested in trying out one of the larger horns let me know. We have one at the Band Room now.

RANDOM SUMMER NEWS

New Staff Members:

Ryan Panter will be working with the Front Ensemble and Pit this year. Ryan comes to us from Wren High School where he served as the Drum Line Instructor. He will also be assisting the drum line and working to help establish our Winter Drum Line Program

Benji Alsep will be working with us this year as a marching and visual instructor. Benji is a Senior as Anderson University and has worked with a number of area bands.

New Band Director Position:

The School District has approved a new full time position for an additional band director at T.L. Hanna. We have been overwhelmed with the level of interest that this position has created, and hope to be able to make an announcement soon.

Washington DC Trip?:

We are currently filing an application for the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC. This festival is held in April and will feature invited high school marching bands from each state. We should hear from the selection committee in September.

Jazz Band to Chicago:

We are also applying for a return trip to the New Trier Jazz Festival in Chicago. This Festival is in early February.

Water:

All Band Members are asked to bring a small water bottle/cooler to camp this year marked with your name. We are also asking each band family to donate two cases of water for camp. Water may be dropped off when students report to camp or during drum line week which starts on July 23rd.

Mardi Gras:

Plans for Mardi Gras are being put in place now. Reservations are made and final plans will be in place when everyone returns in January. Please note that we will have to confirm rooming list and make payments as soon as we return to school. Final figures will be available and given out along with a full itinerary and all information related to the trip. Please make plans to attend the Jan. 9th booster meeting which will address all questions related to our trip.

Winter Guard:
Winter Guard will rehearse on Tuesday, Jan. 2nd from 9 to 5 to stage their contest show. Please check our second semester calendar for contest dates. Rehearsals will be held at Concord Elementary school on Mondays and Thursdays.

Jazz Band:

All Festival and Rehearsal Jazz Band members will be registered for Jazz Band Class once contracts are returned. Please note the dates for Jazz Band on the enclosed schedule.

Region Band:

Region Band auditions will be the focus of class for the first couple of weeks of second semester Region auditions are Saturday, Jan 20th. Transportation will be provided and we have received times which are now posted in the band room.

Chamber Winds and Concert Band:

Plans are now being made for festival selections for both bands. Chamber will also return to Carowinds if money is available.

Show Planning:

We have made a decision for the 2007 fall show. It is actually a mix of two drum corps shows entitled Rocky Point Holiday and Harmonic Motion. CD's will be made available for those who would like to preview. This will be a special arrangement and music will be available in April.

Fruit Sale:

A big thanks to everyone who made this years fruit sale the second largest ever for the Hanna Bands. Sherri and Joe Ryan and all of the team captains and volunteers make the Hanna Sale one of the largest anywhere. Our program would not exist without the financial backing of this annual event. Over $2,000.00 worth of fruit was donated to local charity by our band family. Can goods were also donated at our Christmas Program and delivered to AIM.

Patron and Donor Program:

Please note the information on our web site in regard to our sponsor program. In an effort to keep the Fruit Sale as our only student sales program, we are asking all Hanna Band families to assist with the donor program. Please look over the information and help us to recruit business and individual partners.

Practice Thursday willl dismiss late at 6:45

Master Classes at AU are this Wednesday at 3:30

Call time for Friday will be at 5:30

Call time for Saturday will be 8:00 am.
We will have biscuits that morning for everyone and Sandwiches and snacks after we march.

We perform at 12:45

Awards are at 4:45.

Thursday's Rehearsal and Master Classes

Thursday's Rehearsal (Oct. 12th) will run late. The band will be dismissed no later than 6:45

Master Classes will be conducted for all interested students on Wednesday, Oct. 11th at Anderson University. The classes will be conducted by members of the Air Force Band from 3 to 4 in the College Music Department. Students who wish to attend must sign up with Bas now. Transportation will NOT be provided.

WE WILL LEAVE AT 11:00 AM AND STOP AT THE MALL OF GEORGIA TO EAT LUNCH ON OUR OWN.

WE LEAVE THE MALL AT 3:30 AND ARRIVE AT ROCKDALE COUNTY HIGH IN CONYERS JUST OUTSIDE OF ATLANTA AT 4:30.

WE DRESS AT THE CONTEST SO ALL UNIFORM BAGS WILL BE CHECKED BEFORE BOARDING THE BUSES.

OUR PERFORMANCE TIME IS 8:40 AND AWARDS ARE AT 10:15. OUR ARRIVAL TIME BACK IN ANDERSON WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 1:30 AM.

Adjustments to Band schedule

ADJUSTMENTS TO SCHEDULE:

The Mauldin Game will be dropped from our schedule. The Band will not travel to that game.

We will not have a Contest on September 16th.

The Easley Game on October 6th is AWAY not HOME. We will travel to Easley.

The Spaghetti Supper has been moved to October 20th which is the Wren Game

Watch out for News on the Blue Man Project! Percussion Ensemble and the Hanna Art department will team up for a Spring Presentation of our Version of the Blue Man Group.

Chaperone Meeting

All parents who wish to serve as a Chaperone for the 2006-2007 school year must attend a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, August 1st at 6:30 in the band room. We are required to hold a meeting and everyone must fill out a form for a background check. Parents who filed these forms last year do not have to do so again. If you have a conflict with this meeting and would like to be a chaperone please call the band office and let us know.

News from Band Camp Week 2!

Red Bull will be bringing free drinks to everyone after the Morning Rehearsal on Tuesday.

Wednesday afternoon will be picture day. Van Sullivan will be taking pictures during sectionals. Please make sure and pick up a brochure at the band room.

Our annual cookout will be this Thursday from 4 to 7. Please come out and enjoy some free food!

We will not have an afternoon rehearsal on Friday. All students will be dismissed at noon.

We need donations of electrical and duct tape, pool cue sticks (for the flag corps), black spray paint.

We are also going to need help with building and painting some props. More information to follow!

"Groove Fest"

We have been asked to provide musicians for the "Groove Fest" at the Civic Center on Friday evening August 11th. Specific information will follow. This is a fund-raiser for the "Partners for a Healthy Community" organization and we will take volunteers for those who would like to play.
